I would like to write a letter on your behalf recommending your Bariatric referral services. For the majority of my life I have been overweight by 30 to 50 pounds, despite a very healthy/ strict diet and taking exercise classes 5 times a week. Even though I ate healthy, I ate way too much, such as 3 salads in one sitting. In July 2007, I decided to take control of my eating problems and flew to Monterrey, Mexico.
Since then my life has changed drastically. I have lost 56 pounds (with only 2 fills), my self-esteem has increased, my energy levels have increased, I no longer have high blood pressure, I no longer take anti-hypertensive medications, and I have an overall feeling of good health! I am a RN in a major hospital and have since recommended this procedure to some of my obese patients who have co-morbidity’s, or health problems on top of obesity; such as Diabetes and hypertension. I have even recommended seeking treatment outside the USA, such as I did. The lapband in the USA costs $20,000 to $25,000, which is more than double the price of lapband placement in Mexico.
The lapband procedure is a minor surgical procedure that can be done as outpatient (in the hospital one day and out that same day), has minimal pain involved (since the surgical cuts are tiny), can be adjusted or removed if a patient does not like it, and has less complications involved when compared to Gastric Bypass. There are no major problems, such as absorption problems or dumping syndrome associated with the lapband. Really you have NOTHING to lose, well except the weight!
I have to admit I was scared to go to Mexico because of all of the rumors I have heard about medical care there. Let me put those rumors to rest. The Hospital where my doctor performed my lapband placement was nicer than the hospital I am working at now! I checked the hospital out thoroughly and questioned all interventions and medications administered to me. They all meet my high standards and are identical to standards set forth by OSHA and JACO here in the USA.
All equipment used was what you would expect to find in any USA hospital and infection was never an issue due to the use of aseptic technique and prophylactic antibiotics. In addition, nurses can provide quality care because they are well staffed and not worked as hard as nurses in the USA! My mother is on the right and I am on the left. Good luck.
