Being overweight has been the story of my life. It shaped everything I did, affected all my relationships and even dictated what I did for a career. I was never good enough.
In 2002, I had lapband surgery. I did lose some weight, but was never really happy with it, always throwing up. In 2011, I knew something was wrong with my old lapband. I travelled 6 hours to be told the band had grown into my stomach approximately 90 percent, and I needed to have it removed urgently. In January 2012, I did have it removed and it was quite the process. I was told by the surgeon who removed the band I could go on the waiting list for the sleeve.
I had type II diabetes, and it was getting worse, I knew a waiting list was out of the question. I did my research and decided to go to Ready4aChange.
That was by far the best decision I have made. The staff got me my date so quickly, they were nothing but professional, the nurses where beautiful and gentle, everyone was beyond my expectations. The doctor is so sweet and has a genuine interest in you as a patient. My surgery having the sleeve was so simple compared to having the band removed, I was so impressed.
In the 5 months since surgery I have lost 48lbs, I still have some to go, but I have gained a new life and am completely off all my diabetes medication. There is no price you can on great health. I have a 10 year old and feel like now I will be around to watch her grow up. I am 51 and people now tell me because of my weight loss I have turned back the clock and look so young (can’t beat that!).
There is nothing magic with surgery, you still need commitment, but I would recommend it 1000 times over.
