Now back to Exercising Your New Freedom
Looking beyond the actual surgery resulting in significant weight loss to the individual, maintaining and enjoying the new freedoms afforded by that successful surgery deserve your attention BEFORE that final step is taken. Simply having a surgical procedure performed upon one’s body is not a guarantee of better health! You must actively take the necessary steps that will bring you the full benefits for which you underwent surgery in the first place. And when I say steps – I literally mean STEPS!
As with any surgical procedure, there is a period of time required for the body to heal and adjust before return to normal activity, but with Bariatric Surgery performed in order to gain every advantage over obesity, exercise was often not a part of the normal activity of the individual before surgery. For this reason, it is encouraged strongly that it be introduced early in the healing process and then made an integral part of the new lifestyle. It starts with simple walking. STEPS to your new life as a healthy individual begin with making STEPS part of your every day activity.
Walking can be such a relaxing and enjoyable pastime that most find it incredibly easy to begin adding it to their daily routine without much difficulty. Finding the time that works best for you is key to sustaining this vital activity that contributes so many benefits to your overall health and vigor once the initial weight loss from surgery is attained. Are you a morning person? Watch the sunrise as you stroll along in the early morning light and what a great opportunity to remind yourself of all the benefits you are enjoying on this new path of healthy living! Maybe an early evening promenade is more to your liking? The early evening cool breezes can certainly keep you motivated and watching your weight continue to fall closer to your ideal will not be far behind!
As you gain strength and mobility so many other activities become available to you, and along with your doctor you may decide to add more strenuous exercise, such as weight training for stronger bones and toning of muscles. Swimming might be something you would enjoy. The choices you make beginning with Bariatric Surgery to conquer obesity along with the exercise and diet choices after surgery; all blend as you form new habits to build the lifestyle you truly desire to live.
